CGETDC personnel attending NMP online courses via Zoom
TACLOBAN CITY – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), catering to the training needs of both Filipino seafarers and the maritime allied workforce in line with its mandate, conducts series of online training courses to the Coast Guard Education, Training and Doctrine Command (CGETDC) personnel starting March 10 to 26, 2021.
In response to the request sent by the CGETDC to NMP last 03 March 2021, the Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in the Maritime Sector (PADAMS), STD/HIV/AIDS Prevention in the Maritime Sector (SHAPIMS) and Gender Sensitivity Training for Seafarers (GSTS) were delivered to a hundred CGETDC personnel FREE of charge through the zoom video conferencing platform on predetermined dates.
The CGETDC is the training arm of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responsible in enhancing their skills and knowledge through trainings and seminars on basic, advance and strategic courses.
According to CGETDC, the said courses will raise awareness, provide applicable information and increased capabilities to its personnel thereby enabling them to develop professional and competent staff.
Moreover, the NMP is working on possible cooperation with PCG in the implementation of education and training in the fields of Maritime Safety and other courses within the framework of relevant IMO conventions which will be delivered through either online/blended/conventional mode of learning. Also, both parties will collaborate in the implementation of maritime researches and exchange of information relating onboard employability and other data or statistics of maritime concern.
It can be noted that the PCG is a firm partner of NMP in conducting Basic Safety Training for Motorboat Handlers/ Operators & Fisherfolks with Typhoon Preparedness (BSTMHOF) to various local government units (LGUs) in promoting safety of life at sea and safeguarding the marine resources and environment.
Meanwhile, in its effort in providing quality trainings taking into consideration the health and safety standards set forth by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases wherein minimal personal contact is advised, NMP continues to offer the aforementioned FREE online courses to all aspiring and experienced seafarers. Further, NMP encourages OWWA registered seafarers to avail of the NMP-OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) Seafarers’ Upgrading Program (SUP) and Skills for Employment Scholarship Program (SESP) which entitles the beneficiary to receive financial assistance for training costs from the OWWA.
