TACLOBAN CITY – With the aim of assessing the level of gender mainstreaming efforts of the Agency and increasing responsiveness on gender issues confronting the maritime industry, the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) conducted a 2-day Training-Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming Evaluation Framework (GMEF) on 25-26 August 2022 via zoom videoconferencing platform.
In her Welcome Message, NMP Agency Officer-in-Charge, Ms. Grace Marie T. Ayaso highlighted the importance of the said undertaking. “ I hope that at the end of this training, we will be more strategic in terms of applying gender analysis in our proposed programs, activities and projects (PAPs) and be able to integrate gender perspectives at all stages’, she shared.
Ms.Vichel J. Pangan, an independent GAD consultant who is part of the National GAD Resource Pool of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) served as the Resource Person / Facilitator. Among the topics discussed were gender analysis & tools, entry points & levels of gender mainstreaming, enhanced GMEF tool, GMEF organizational assessment questionnaire and GAD planning and budgeting process.
The activity was attended by the members of the NMP GAD Focal Point System, Technical Working Group & Secretariat including some program implementers. The group, using the GMEF tool, assessed the extent of GAD integration in NMP’s systems, structures, policies, programs, processes, and procedures.
During the workshop, NMP’s strong / good practices alongside with areas for improvement were determined. Some substantial gender issues were also identified focusing on both NMP’s clients – the Filipino seafarers and the Agency itself. Moreover, the participants came up with proposals on how to address some of the identified issues which the Agency may adopt in crafting its GAD Plan and Budget for CY 2023.
