Tacloban City – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), in collaboration with the NMP Services Association (NMPSA) and the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) 1101st Squadron Coast Guard Auxiliary District Eastern Visayas (CGADEV), carried out relief operations in Barangay Canipaan, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte last January 2, 2022, to heed the call for help of the victims of the Super Typhoon Odette (International name Rai) that struck the Philippines on December 16 and 17, 2021.
Typhoon Odette/Rai, the strongest typhoon that hit the country in 2021, intensified from Category 1 to Category 5 as it made several landfalls in the islands of Visayas and Mindanao, caused grave devastation, even deaths to the worst affected areas.
The relief operations in coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU), was funded through the donations from the NMP management and employees, members of the NMPSA and PCGA-CGADEV, and other private individuals. The team distributed food packs and other basic subsistence to 220 affected victims in the aforementioned barangay.
