
Tacloban City – A simultaneous commencement exercises was hosted by the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) on 11 February 2022 to confer the graduates of IMO Model Courses 6.09 and 6.10 of the DMMA-College of Southern Philippines (DCSP), Davao City and Lyceum of the Philippines (LPU), Batangas, respectively.
NMP, thru Executive Director Joel B. Maglunsod conferred twelve (12) graduates of the IMO MC 6.09 or the Training Course for Instructors which was conducted on 31 January- 11 February 2022 at DCSP, and eleven (11) graduates of the IMO MC 6.10 or the Training Course for Simulators, Instructors and Assessors held on 7-11 February 2022 at LPU Batangas. Special awards were also bestowed to some of the trainees who showed outstanding performance during the training and simulation exercises.
“After equipping you with the skills, knowledge and competence by our knowledgeable and experienced guest lecturers, we believe that you can be a partner of the government in uplifting the competitiveness of our Filipino seafarers in the international labor market,” ED Maglunsod said in his closing message.
ED Maglunsod also announced the recent partnership forged of NMP with the Sea Quest Maritime Training, Inc., an updating training and practical assessment center located in Malate, Manila, for the conduct of the Professional Development Courses (PDC) trainings. With this, he urged the interested seafarers in Luzon to take advantage of the opportunity to avail of the said training and the batch for the IMO MC 6.10 is calendared on 7-11 March 2022.
These offsite trainings for the conduct of PDC training in tie-ups with Maritime Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) and maritime training institutions, is a result of the intensified efforts of NMP being the government’s arm in uplifting the competencies and competitiveness of the Filipino seafarers in the international labor market. Aside from the PDC, NMP is also pushing for the development and upgrading of STCW mandatory and non-STCW courses for the benefit of our seafarers.
