NMP Ties Up with GOLD, Foundation, Inc.

The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) and Gregorio Oca Leadership and Development (GOLD), Foundation, Inc. inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the GOLD Foundation, Inc. Suite 600, The Gregorian 2178 Taft Avenue, Malate, Manila on 12 September 2018.
The MOA was entered into by both parties with the aim of addressing the critical issues and challenges in the maritime manpower development and strengthening ties of cooperation and promote exchange of information on maritime development particularly on training and research.
Also in attendance during the event were NMP Deputy Executive Director, Ms. Mayla N. Macadawan and Head of the GOLD Foundation, Inc. Management Team, Ms. Ma.Teresa S. Yuvienco.
The mutual benefit of the partnership include (a) collaboration in the preparation and conduct of course development training / workshop and self-mastery-related trainings to NMP instructors and employees; (b) cooperation in the development and implementation of a course package covering Survival Diving and Rescue; (c) attendance to the conduct of researches and fora on matters affecting the maritime education and training system and manpower development; and (d) exchange of information / data on maritime development.
The GOLD Foundation, Inc. advocates for the transformational leadership values and intellectual and moral development of maritime cadets and young professionals. It also undertakes development programs producing Filipino maritime leaders who are creative visionaries, well-equipped to face the challenges of the professional world.
While NMP, on the other hand, is the only government maritime training and research center tasked to upgrade and update the country’s maritime manpower through the conduct of upgrading, specialized and basic safety courses in accordance with the requisites of the STCW as amended. It also offers other value-added courses. NMP also conducts maritime studies to come up with policies for the improvement of the manpower sector of the industry.
Those interested in NMP research undertakings may visit the NMP website (www.nm.gov.ph) and access the e-Research Information System Portal which is designed to gather inputs for NMP’s research, dissemination of NMP completed researches and other articles pertaining to maritime research.
Further, NMP encourages seafarers to avail of the NMP-OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) Seafarers’ Upgrading Program (SUP) which entitles the beneficiary to receive financial assistance for training costs from the OWWA.
