TACLOBAN CITY – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) successfully conducted its annual fire drill this morning in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). This exercise aims to ensure that NMP personnel are well-equipped with the essential skills and knowledge needed to effectively respond to fire emergencies.
Reinforcing the importance of such initiatives, NMP Executive Director Victor A. Del Rosario emphasized the critical role of preparedness in fire safety. “Our annual collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection is essential in strengthening our readiness for fire emergencies. While we hope such incidents never arise, the reality is that fire hazards remain a constant risk. Vigilance is imperative—not only for our own safety but also for the protection of our trainees, especially those residing in our training facilities and dormitories. Their safety and well-being remain our highest priority,” he stated.
To equip participants with the necessary knowledge before the drill, a lecture was conducted covering key fire safety topics, including fire classifications, proper use of fire extinguishers, and effective techniques for handling different types of fires. This preparatory session ensured that NMP personnel and trainees could apply best practices during the drill.
Following the exercise, the BFP conducted a thorough assessment of the fire drill procedures, offering constructive feedback and recommendations to further enhance NMP’s emergency response protocols. Highlighting the importance of continued collaboration, BFP Team Leader SFO1 Rowena C. Bulawan remarked, “NMP may coordinate and consult with us at any time for fire safety concerns. We are always ready to offer guidance and support in ensuring a safe environment.”
This initiative not only strengthens NMP’s emergency response capabilities but also reinforces its commitment to fostering a culture of safety and preparedness, ensuring a secure environment for all.
