TACLOBAN CITY — In celebration of the Day of the Seafarer on June 25, 2025, with the theme “My Harassment-Free Ship,” the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), the country’s premier government maritime training and research institution, announces a special initiative, offering free training and dormitory accommodation to all female trainees whose training programs will begin and end within the month of June.
This initiative forms part of NMP’s ongoing Gender and Development (GAD) advocacy, which seeks to empower women and promote gender inclusion within the traditionally male-dominated maritime industry. By making maritime training more accessible, NMP aims to encourage more women to pursue seafaring careers and equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed at sea.
Qualified female trainees may enroll in any of NMP’s scheduled training programs for June and will benefit from free tuition and complimentary dormitory lodging at the NMP Training Complex in Tacloban City.
“We recognize the immense potential of women in maritime, and this is our way of breaking barriers and opening doors,” said NMP Executive Director Victor Del Rosario. “This effort is also our tribute to the hardworking women at sea, in line with the spirit of the Day of the Seafarer.”
“Let’s set sail toward an inclusive maritime future—together, we can shape a more diverse and empowered seafaring community,” added NMP Deputy Executive Director Mayla Macadawan.
Interested female applicants may register online through the NMP Training Enrollment System at https://register.nmp.gov.ph.
