Tacloban City – As part of the agency’s continuing commitment to uphold compliance with occupational safety and health (OSH) standards, a team from the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) conducted a comprehensive safety and health audit at the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) on 28 May 2025.
The initiative stemmed from NMP’s formal request for technical assistance in assessing its facilities and operations. In response, the OSHC deployed a team of experts from its Safety Control, Health Control, and Environmental Control Divisions, each bringing specialized expertise to evaluate critical aspects of NMP’s work environment. The team was tasked with assessing the Agency’s compliance with national Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations and proactively identifying potential risks and hazards that could endanger the safety of personnel, trainees, and stakeholders.
As a government maritime training and research institution, NMP places the highest priority on the health, safety, and well-being of its people. “A culture of safety not only protects employees and trainees—it also enhances the productivity and efficiency of the entire organization,” said NMP Executive Director Victor A. Del Rosario. “Through this collaboration with OSHC, we are committed to continuously improving our workplace environment and upholding the highest safety standards.”
The audit findings will serve as a basis for strengthening existing safety protocols, ensuring regulatory compliance, and assessing eligibility for hazard pay among personnel assigned to high-risk areas. These measures are crucial in safeguarding those involved in the performance of NMP’s mandates, particularly in training delivery and field-based research.
NMP looks forward to receiving OSHC’s comprehensive report and recommendations, which are expected to reinforce the institution’s ongoing efforts to protect its human resources—the backbone of its service to Filipino seafarers and the maritime industry as a whole.
