TACLOBAN CITY –The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), a government owned and operated maritime training and research institution, upgrades its registration process with the use of kiosks to cater automated registration for the enrollment of its trainees.

The said kiosk is the hardware component of the in-house developed information system called Maritime Training Express Registration System. The development of the information system was part of the initiative of the agency under its Information System Strategic Plan (ISSP) to better serve and provide services via technological intervention in order to fast track the transaction for enrollees and provide ease of doing business with the agency.

First time trainees must fill-out the computerized Registration Form in the kiosk before proceeding to their designated window that will be flashed on the Registrar’s screen while returnee trainees will not anymore fill up a form as they will just be entering their first name, last name and birthdate to find their existing records in the database. They may update the records or proceed with the selection of training course schedules and submit the application and wait for his/her name to be called at a designated window. This process can make the transaction time shorter and easier than the manual filling up of registration forms.

The development of the information system was done on the second semester of 2019 and a series of tests were made to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the automated process sighting the necessary scenario that may arise on actual transactions.

This agency initiative is in response to the President’s urgent order in streamlining and improving government service delivery which is also in line with NMP’s digitalization efforts as stated in its 41st Anniversary theme: “Enhancing Accessibility and Ensuring Global Relevancy Through Digital Transformation in Maritime Training and Research.”

Meanwhile, on its effort to sustain its mandate in providing quality service through upgrading and specialized training programs, NMP continues to maintain and upgrade its facilities and its pool of competent instructors. Those who are interested to take the training courses may visit the NMP website at www.nmp.gov.ph or visit the agency’s facebook page (www.facebook.com/nmptrainingcenter) where all updates and relevant information on the NMP programs are available.

Interested stakeholders who wish to validate the authenticity of their seafarers-employed with NMP issued certificates may visit www.verify.nmp.gov.ph or download the NMP App at Google Play Store for android phone users.

Further, NMP encourages OWWA registered seafarers to avail of the NMP-OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) Seafarers’ Upgrading Program (SUP) and Skills for Employment Scholarship Program (SESP) which entitles the beneficiary to receive financial assistance for training costs from the OWWA.
