Tacloban City – Along with the agency’s priority thrust to provide basic, upgrading, specialized and professional development courses for the Filipino seafarers and the maritime allied personnel, the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), underwent a re-accreditation inspection by the Maritime Industry Authority – Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (MARINA-STCW) Office on 3-5 November 2021.
MARINA carried out the inspection to NMP with respect to the latter’s application for renewal of accreditation of the training courses on Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations (BTOTCO), Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations (ATOTCO), Ship Security Officer (SSO) and Management Level Course (MLC) for Deck.
MARINA assessed the agency’s capability and readiness to conduct the aforesaid courses. The evaluation and inspection covered the training designs, illustrations and diagrams, textbooks and videos, and other references teaching aids used, and the structural facilities, classrooms and training equipment and devices.
The Inspection team from MARINA-STCW Office was composed by Ms. Airen Apuhin, Ms. Czarina Amante, Engr. Ernesto Morales, Jr., Capt. Manuel Evangelista and Mr. James Cassius Dy.
The Entry Meeting with the MARINA inspection team was conducted on 3 November 2021 while the Exit Meeting was held on 5 November 2021. NMP noted the observations cited in the results of the evaluation and inspection, and will closely monitor its compliance to immediately address the observations so as to hasten its approval and the implementation of said maritime courses.
