TACLOBAN CITY –Selected employees of the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) join the Visayas Island team as a member of the delegates for the basketball – for men and volleyball – for women in the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-WIDE SPORTSFEST as part of DOLE’s 84th Foundation Anniversary Celebration.
With the aim of encouraging employees’ involvement and good sportsmanship as the sports fest will not only test each team’s physical strength and athletic ability but will also challenge the mind, and provide fun activities for the entire DOLE bureaucracy, the event started in October 2017 and will culminate on 08 December 2017 where four competing teams will vie for the championship.
Participants of the sport fest who must be regular employees of the DOLE and who are physically fit took part in the said activity.
Delegates come from the (1) National Capital Region, (2) Luzon, (3) Visayas, and (4) Mindanao.
Major sports events vied for in three legs include basketball, volleyball and golf. Finals for the basketball and volleyball will held on three venues in Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon respectively.
More than 200 players and participants from the different DOLE island teams joined the 1st Leg of the DOLE Wide Interisland Sportsfest last October 26-28, 2017 at D’Leonor Inland Resort here in Davao City. Almost the same number of participants attended the 2nd Leg of the DOLE Wide Interisland Sportsfest last November 16-18, 2017 held at the Silliman University, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Aside from fostering camaraderie between and among its colleagues from the DOLE, NMP continues to upgrade its facilities and provide maritime trainings required pursuant to the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW) Convention as amended in 2010 including value-adding courses towards improving the qualifications of Filipino seafarers for their employment acceptability and enhanced competitiveness. It also regularly conducts researches to come up with policies for the improvement of the maritime manpower sector of the industry.
