TACLOBAN CITY – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) has taken a significant step towards sustainability and safety by installing solar-powered lights across its campus. This initiative reflects the institution’s unwavering commitment to renewable energy and environmental stewardship.

The solar lights have been strategically placed along walkways, parking areas, and common spaces to reduce energy consumption, minimize the campus’ carbon footprint, and provide eco-friendly illumination. By improving visibility and ensuring safe navigation after dark, these lights help prevent accidents such as trips and falls while addressing other potential hazards.

“This project aligns with our vision of creating a green and safer campus,” said NMP Executive Director Victor A. Del Rosario. “By utilizing solar energy, we are not only contributing to environmental preservation but also demonstrating to our community the importance of sustainable practices. Our solar lighting project is an investment in our future, enhancing the comfort and safety of our trainees, guests, and staff.”, he added.

In addition to the environmental advantages, this initiative forms part of NMP’s broader commitment to campus safety and accessibility. Well-lit paths and public areas foster an inclusive and secure environment, ensuring that everyone can move confidently throughout the premises.

The installation of solar lights is just one of several green initiatives planned by NMP as it continues to champion sustainability and innovation in maritime education and training.
