TACLOBAN CITY- The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) a government owned maritime training and research institute, joins the various lined-up activities for the 30th National Statistics Month (NSM) bannering this year’s theme, “Data Innovation: Key to a Better Nation”.
In support to the NSM, NMP attended the NSM Opening Ceremony at the Robinsons North, Tacloban last 30 September 2019. The Regional Director of the Philippine Statistics Authority Regional Office VIII, Ms. Wilma A. Perante marked the start of the statistics celebration as she quoted “Government and developing agencies around the world is moving away from old models of problem solving. Before, we were just merely doing simple monitoring of our programs this time we do innovation by searching new network models of resilience. The challenge to us now is we have these multiple types of ways on how to use data like with the use of mobile devices with sensors, new technologies that will improve the delivery of our services with faster insights but sustainable development should always be our goal. So with the use of this data innovation, we discover new ways of developing, measuring regional development and interventions in times of crisis, so these data innovations are the key to a better nation”.
Subsequently, NMP participated in the 1st Eastern Visayas Data Festival (EV Data Fest) last 29 October 2019 with the theme, “Bringing Statistics Closer” in line with the NSM celebration. The EV Data Fest showcased statistical updates/innovations in data generation. In attendance were statisticians/designated statisticians of Regional Line Agencies, Local Government Units, and representatives from the private section, and state universities and colleges’ faculty and students enrolled in statistics and related programs in the region.
