Ceremonial signing of MoU on the campaign against Ambulance Chasing on 22 February 2022

Tacloban City – Karapatan: Sama-samang Ingatan” an information campaign against ambulance chasing was launched with a ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 22 February 2022.

The information campaign, an offshoot of National Maritime Polytechnic’s completed research in 2019 was collaboratively developed with the International Seafarers Welfare Assistance Network (ISWAN), Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA). The MoU was signed by the aforementioned agencies together with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) and the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC).

Seeing the proliferation of ambulance chasers targeting the Filipino seafarers, the information drive seeks to promote awareness to seafarers on Republic Act 10706 or the Seafarer’s Protection Act, and intends to encourage them to engage the assistance of relevant government agencies, seafarer’s union and non-government organizations where their welfare and well-being is of utmost concern
