NMP Instructors Undergo Familiarization on the Use of Digital Platform

Mr. Andrew Soledad
TACLOBAN CITY – As a safer alternative and cost-effective solution to ensure that Filipino seafarers can renew mandatory certificates and maintain their competence during this time of pandemic, the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) carries out personnel interventions to its trainers by providing familiarization on the use of digital platform specifically the Google Classroom platform for the offering of Online & Blended Trainings.
The activity was conducted by Mr. Andrew Soledad, Information Technology Officer I and Head of the NMP’s Information and Marketing Section, on 19 February 2021 at the NMP Training Building. The certification to be issued to the participants of the said undertaking is a requirement by MARINA for the approval on the conduct of Blended Learning of Maritime Training Institutions (MTIs). Prior to the activity was the hands-on training on the use of Google Classroom or the Train the Trainer Online Distance Learning held in June 2020.
Noteworthy that NMP offers blended learning for Updating Training on Basic Training (BTU) course and three (3) online courses, namely: Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in the Maritime Sector (PADAMS), STD/HIV/AIDS Prevention in the Maritime Sector (SHAPIMS), and Gender Sensitivity Training for Seafarers (GSTS), all offered free of cost. Interested participants may visit this link for registration: https://nmp.gov.ph/online-course-offerings/. On the other hand, the Blended Course on Oily Water Separator (OWS) is also offered in a pocket-friendly price.
Accordingly, as part of the NMP’s digitization initiatives, an ongoing review of identified NMP courses to be converted to either Online or Blended Learning is being done by NMP’s Curriculum Development Section. Meanwhile, establishment of Online Registration system is also underway to answer the need for the contactless payment and registration being recommended by the MARINA.
