TACLOBAN CITY – In celebration of National Women’s Month, the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), through its Gender and Development (GAD) Committee, organized a Lecture on Financial Literacy to its employees and job order workers on 14 March 2025, at School Building 3, NMP Complex, Tacloban City.

Capt. Chito Go, NMP Head of the Maritime Training and Assessment Division (MTAD), opened the session by emphasizing the importance of financial management in both professional and personal life. “This activity empowers our employees to make smart financial decisions and equips them with the knowledge and skills to manage their finances effectively and avoid debt,” he stated.

The lecture was facilitated by Ms. Erma Lumpas Lagarto, Bank Officer IV of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Tacloban Branch, who shared practical insights on savings, budgeting, debt management, and the basics of investing. Participants learned how to develop smart financial habits, avoid debt traps, and make informed investment choices to secure their future.

The activity underscored the importance of financial literacy in promoting economic empowerment, particularly among women, as part of the Women’s Month advocacy.
