NMP and LPU-LIMA discussing the conduct of IMO Model Course 3.12 last August 10, 2021.

TACLOBAN CITY – As the country’s premier provider of specialized and upgraded courses to Filipino seafarers and maritime allied labor force, the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) conferred eight (8) graduates of the IMO Model Course 3.12 or the Assessment, Examination, and Certification of Seafarers at the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Batangas – Lyceum International Maritime Academy (LIMA), Lipa City, Batangas on August 25, 2021.

The 10-day training course that ran from August 16-25, 2021, is the first partnership of the NMP with LPU-LIMA as part of its intensified efforts to improve the current training techniques and provide insight into course management necessary to achieve the prescribed standard of competence for those responsible for the education and training of seafarers.

In response to their vision to produce a line-up of qualified maritime instructors, LPU Batangas-LIMA’s Dean of the Maritime Programs, Capt. Alexander A. Gonzales requested the training from NMP with the objective to provide their instructors the necessary skills and knowledge geared towards the delivery of quality education and continual professional growth.

The graduates of the program were conferred by NMP’s Deputy Executive Director, Mayla N. Macadawan, who commended the efforts of the LPU Batangas – LIMA management for availing the services of the NMP. In her closing message, she also emphasized that despite the pandemic, the agency continues to hone the Filipino seafarers’ skills and competence by making its training programs more accessible to all Filipino seafarers through partnership with different maritime higher educations institutions (MHEIs) and organization across the country.

Also present in the ceremony were Engr. Ponciano V. Trinidad, Head of the Maritime Training and Assessment Division, NMP and Ms. Evelyn T. Futol, OIC, NMP Manila Office.

Following this first successful collaboration, NMP and LPU Batangas – LIMA is set to conduct the IMO Model Course 6.10 or the Train the Simulator Trainer and Assessor Course for the latter’s faculty.
