NMP COMPLIES DATA PRIVACY ACT OF 2012 REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

NMP’s Official Digital Certificate of Registration

TACLOBAN CITY – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), a premier maritime training and research institution mandated to hone the skills and knowledge of the Filipino maritime labor workforce received its certification from the National Privacy Commission (NPC) as compliant with the registration requirements of Republic Act 10173 otherwise known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

Received on June 14, 2019, the certification signifies the agency’s effort in securing the personal information of clients and employees while carrying out its mandate.

The said policy of the State protects the fundamental human right of communication privacy while ensuring free flow of information to promote innovation and growth. The State recognizes the vital role of information and communications technology in nation-building and its inherent obligation to ensure that personal information and communications systems in the government and in the private sector are secured and protected.

This Act applies to the processing of all types of personal information and to any natural and juridical person involved in personal information processing.

The agency Data Privacy Technical Committee is composed of Ms. Mayla N. Macadawan as Chairperson, Mr. Andrew D. Soledad as Vice-Chairperson with members Ms. Peñafiel Flor M. Legua as Personal Information Controller/Processor, Ms. Ma. Jasmin J. Andrade,         Mr. Ricardo L. Mionda, and Joel E. Caimoy as Compliance Officers for Privacy, and Ms. Maria Sandra M. Gallardo as secretariat.

Concurrently, the NMP continues to upgrade its facilities and provide maritime trainings required pursuant to the STCW Convention as amended in 2010 including value-adding courses towards improving the qualifications of Filipino seafarers for their employment acceptability and enhanced competitiveness.  It also regularly conducts maritime studies to come up with policies for the improvement of the manpower sector of the industry.

Further, NMP encourages seafarers to avail of the NMP-OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) Seafarers’ Upgrading Program (SUP) and Skills for Employment Scholarship Program (SESP) which entitles the beneficiary to receive financial assistance for training costs from the OWWA.
