TACLOBAN CITY – A strategic move towards enhancing its educational offerings, the Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) representatives visited the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) in Tacloban City on 24 October 2023. The purpose of the visit was to benchmark NMP’s industry-leading practices in maritime education, aligning with ESSU’s plans to introduce maritime courses in its extension school in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

During the visit, the team, comprising of faculty members and librarians, was immersed in NMP’s comprehensive programs, services, equipment and facilities. They explored the vast repository of reference materials in the NMP library and witnessed the practical exercises at the Fire Fighting and Boat Davit areas. Additionally, they had a look-see of the Agency’s training simulators housed at the NMP Training Building, further enriching their understanding of the intricacies of maritime education and training.

The benchmarking visit provided ESSU a solid foundation to structure and enrich their offering of maritime courses. By incorporating NMP’s best practices and industry know-how, ESSU aims to foster a dynamic learning environment and prepare students for a successful career engagement in the maritime industry.
