MANDATE AND FUNCTIONS

Creation and Legal Mandate

The National Maritime Polytechnic is the only government maritime training and research center in the Philippines established on May 1, 1978 by virtue of Presidential Decree 1369. It became an attached Agency to the Department of Labor and Employment in 1987 with the signing of Executive Order 126.

By virtue of Republic Act No. 11641, otherwise known as the “Department of Migrant Workers Act”, the NMP is subsumed under the newly-created Department of Migrant Workers under the Office for Sea-based OFW Concerns maintaining its original functions as follows:

    1. Offer specialization and upgrading courses for both licensed officers and ratings; and
    2. Conduct researches and studies on the latest maritime technologies and other related matters for the maritime industry.

Quality Policy Statement

Quality is an integral part in our daily operations. The Top Management of the National Maritime Polytechnic together with our competent of our quality-conscious personnel, commit to consistently deliver high level of quality service to our clients and stakeholders, satisfy their requirements and exceed their expectations through effective implementation of programs and services.

Specifically, NMP shall provide basic, upgrading, specialization and professional development courses that meet or surpass the national and international standards for Filipino seafarers and maritime allied personnel, conduct competency assessment to qualified candidates in accordance with the Seafarer’ Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Code as amended, and undertake relevant research and studies for the maritime industry.

Our Quality Management System is regularly reviewed for suitability, adequacy and its continual improvement to meet organizational objectives.
