TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) is thrilled to announce the approval for the offering of its two (2) STCW mandatory courses for FREE, namely: Passenger Ship Crisis Management and Human Behavior Training (PSCMHBT) and “Safety Training for Personnel Providing Direct Services to Passenger Spaces (STPPDSPS),” which will complement the existing four (4) courses already provided by NMP at no cost.

The approval, granted by Atty. Hans Leo J. Cacdac, Officer-In-Charge of Office of the Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) underscores NMP’s commitment in providing accessible and quality training opportunities. The decision aligns with NMP’s mission to contribute to the needs of the Filipino seafarers for skills enhancement and capacity building interventions.

NMP Executive Director Victor A. Del Rosario conveyed his excitement for this initiative, emphasizing its pivotal role in promoting inclusivity within the maritime sector. “This represents a substantial achievement for NMP as we work towards enhancing the accessibility and affordability of our programs and services, made possible by offering them for free. The provision of these courses at no cost extends beyond broadening educational opportunities; it is a significant contribution to nurturing skilled and competent maritime professionals,” he articulated.

In addition to the approved courses, ED Del Rosario announced that further studies will be conducted on existing NMP training courses to identify additional training courses that can be offered for free. This endeavor is a collaborative effort with the DMW, reflecting the shared commitment to this noble cause.
