Tacloban City— The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) participated as a resource person during the 3rd Quarter Regional Basic Sectors Coordinating Council (RBSCC) cum Regional Inter-agency Meeting and Learning Session on 29 August 2024, at Hotel Consuelo, Tacloban City.
NMP showcased its programs, services, and initiatives to an audience comprising various associations, affiliations, and cooperatives representing marginalized sectors from Eastern Visayas. Other presenters were from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) RO8 and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) RO8.
Attendees expressed strong interest in NMP’s Basic Safety Training for Motorboat Handlers/Operators and Fishermen (BSTMHOF). This program aims to enhance the safety and competency of fisherfolks by providing them with essential skills for navigating and operating their vessels, thereby improving their livelihoods. NMP also highlighted its openness to collaborate with various organizations and stakeholders to expand the reach and impact of this training, ensuring that it effectively meets the needs of the community
The RBSCC, established by the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), functions as a local mechanism for engaging basic sectors in development planning and policy-making with Regional Development Councils and other local platforms, focusing on sustainable development priorities.
