MANILA – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) has officially submitted its comprehensive Php1,337,613,775 Modernization Plan to Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Martin G. Romualdez, through the Chairperson of the Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, Tingog Party List Representative Cong. Jude A. Acidre.
Endorsed by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Atty. Hans Leo J. Cacdac, this multi-year plan (FY 2025 – 2028) outlines strategic initiatives to upgrade NMP’s facilities and infrastructure, expand its training and research capabilities, and enhance overall service delivery.
Aligned with the DMW’s goal of empowering and protecting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the plan also responds to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for increased collaboration between government agencies and private stakeholders to ensure a steady supply of skilled workers for the shipping industry. Through this initiative, NMP aims to benefit seafarers and their families while continuing to improve the quality of life in Eastern Visayas, its neighboring regions, and for the Filipinos in general.
The plan likewise supports the vision of sustaining and advancing the legacy of former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos and reflects NMP’s commitment of advancing maritime education and training under the leadership of Executive Director Victor A. Del Rosario.
Moreover, this modernization efforts will allow NMP to effectively fulfill its statutory mandates as defined in Republic Act 11641.
With the plan now submitted for legislative review and deliberation, NMP is poised to secure the necessary support and funding to realize this transformative vision, further advancing the Philippine maritime industry.
