TACLOBAN CITY – In a heartfelt tribute to the dedication and hard work of Filipino seafarers, the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) hosted a series of special activities in line with the annual celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer, observed every June 25.

The activities featured a medical mission in partnership with the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) and the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) 1101 Squadron. This mission included medical consultations, distribution of basic medicines and vitamins, and provision of reading glasses, aimed to ensure that trainees and staff had access to critical health services, promoting their overall well-being.

In addition, attendees enjoyed complimentary beauty care and massage services, such as haircuts, nail care, and massages, in collaboration with the City Government of Tacloban. These offerings provided a much-needed opportunity for relaxation and self-care, emphasizing the importance of personal well-being amidst demanding maritime careers.

Aligned with this year’s theme, “Navigating the Future: Safety First,” NMP’s programs and initiatives are dedicated to achieving safety and excellence in maritime practices. Through comprehensive training, responsive research, and strategic partnerships, NMP continues to enhance the capabilities of Filipino seafarers, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to thrive in their careers while upholding the highest safety standards.

Meanwhile, NMP seafarer-trainees and NMP employees, including guest trainers, Job Order Workers (JOWs), and other personnel, actively participated in these free services. These activities underscored NMP’s unwavering commitment to supporting the health and well-being of its community, recognizing the vital contributions of seafarers to the global maritime industry.
