TACLOBAN CITY – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), as one of the subsumed agencies of the
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) joined the Hybrid Mass Oath-taking of newly-appointed employees of the DMW on 22 December 2022.
The newly-created department by virtue of Republic Act 11641, after satisfying all the enabling conditions: (a) approved and effective Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR); (b) approved staffing pattern; and (c) approved budget under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), will be fully operational in 2023. DMW is the agency tasked in safeguarding the rights and promoting the welfare of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
“2023 will be an exciting year for NMP. We are thrilled about the possible partnerships that NMP will be able to establish under the umbrella of the DMW. In fact, early this year, NMP together with the DMW and the International Labour Organization (ILO) already discussed possible areas of collaboration on the development of skills training and certification for Filipino migrant fishers,” NMP OIC Executive Director Mayla N. Macadawan expressed.
NMP welcomes 2023 with open arms and commits to keep sailing on as it embraces the opportunities and challenges that will come its way.
