TACLOBAN CITY — Building adept and equipped maritime communicators of the English language, the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) conducted a Pilot Testing on the Technical Writing for Seafarers (TWS) course as part of the professional development training offerings for the Filipino seafarers.

The 5-day activity commenced on August 16 which was participated by eight (8) NMP employees, Dr. Shelley Mae Sibya from GOLD Foundation and Ms. Rheea Prudente, Director of Seafarer U Asia together with three (3) validators.

It can be recalled that last 16 July 2021, the NMP Course Development Team (CDT) and Subject Matter Expert (SME), Dr. Ariel Raynes, conducted a review on the TWS course package which was used during the said Pilot Testing.

This course aims to develop and strengthen the technical report writing skills of seafarers who are involved in preparing maritime reports, emails and various maritime correspondences. It can accommodate primarily the seafarers in the management level of responsibility and even those in the operational and support level and non-seafarers who work in maritime sectors and are in need the of the TWS course. The course will touch the elements of style, structure, format and other components necessary for clear and effective maritime communication.

The results and recommendations during the Pilot Testing will be used as additional inputs for the enhancement and finalization of the course package for the approval of the NMP management and presentation to the NMP Board of Trustees (BOT). It is targeted to be offered in CY 2022 at NMP Tacloban.
