NMP and STCW, INC.  Forge Agreement on the conduct of PDC

The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) and Seabase Training Center for Watchkeeping, Inc. (STCW INC.), forged a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the OSM Office, Suite E 6th Floor, G.E. Antonio Building, T.M. Kalaw, Ermita Manila on 21 February 2018.

The MOA was entered into by both parties with the aim of strengthening cooperation towards the enhancement of the quality of trainings for Filipino seafarers, particularly on the conduct of Professional Development Courses (PDC), compliant with the requirements of the International Convention on Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping Convention (STCW) for Seafarers as amended in 2010.

The NMP and STCW INC. recognize that aside from upgrading the qualifications of the country’s pool of seafarers, advancing the capabilities of maritime faculty is equally critical.  The ultimate goal of the collaboration is to ensure that Filipino seafarers obtain the competences necessary in ensuring their employability onboard vessels through effective maritime instructions in accordance with international standards.

Also in  attendance during the event were Capt. Emmanuel Jesus M. Laguitan, Ms. Elena M. Santos and Ms. Evelyn T. Futol from the NMP and Capt. Christian Alexander G. Abilo and Ms. Ma. Donna M. Napuli from STCW INC.

The STCW INC.  envisions itself to be one of the  leading maritime training center in the country that uphold the competence of   Filipino Seafarers as part of the country’s pride and growth through their contribution to the economic development and nation building.

While NMP, on the other hand, is the only government maritime training center tasked to upgrade and update the country’s maritime manpower through the conduct of upgrading, specialized and basic safety courses in accordance with the requisites of the STCW as amended.  It also offers other value-added courses. NMP also conducts maritime studies to come up with policies for the improvement of the manpower sector of the industry.

Further, NMP is the leader in providing training interventions to the trainers and assessors of the maritime training and education institutions with its Professional Development Courses.
