NMP SMEs Participated in STCW Courses Development Writeshop

Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) participated in the Writeshop on Development of New Courses Under Chapters II and III and Validation of Training Courses under Chapters V and VI of the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention, as amended, conducted on February 27 – March 3, 2017 and March 6 – 8, 2017 at the Armada Hotel, Manila.

Capt. Emmanuel Jesus M. Laguitan, Capt. Chito A. Go, OICEW Rommel C. Lesigues and Engr. Tomas A. Tamayo, joined other SMEs and provided inputs to come up with a standard outcomes-based course packages that are fully compliant with the requirements of the 2010 Amendments to the STCW, 1978.

The validation processes of existing courses include revisions of Course Plans with concentration on Part A - Course Framework, Part B - Course Outline and Part E - Evaluation.

The writeshop comprise the courses on Ratings Forming Part of Navigational Watch, Able Seafarer Deck, Ratings Forming Part of Engineering Watch, Able Seafarer Engine, Electro Technical Officer, Electro Technical Rating, Basic Training, Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boat, Medical First Aid, Medical Care, Ship Security Awareness Training and Seafarers with Designated Security Duties, Ship Security Officer, Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations, Advanced Training for Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations, Basic Training for Liquified Gas Tanker Cargo Operations and Advanced Training for Liquified Gas Tanker Cargo Operations.

It was spearheaded by the Research and Development Division, Planning and Policy Service Office of the Maritime Industry Authority.

Meanwhile, the NMP continues to upgrade its facilities and provide maritime trainings required pursuant to the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Convention as amended in 2010. It also regularly conducts maritime studies to come up with policies for the improvement of the manpower sector of the industry.
